BQ25308: Will the STAT Report TS Fault When Not Charging?

Part Number: BQ25308

Tool/software:

If Vbus is connected to a supply which is not of sufficiently high-current to charge a cell, but is sufficiently high-voltage to turn on the device, such that the device is powered but not charging, will the TS pin still measure cell temperature accurately?

Will STAT pin report Cold/Hot fault at the TS pin in such low-power conditions?

  • Hello,

TS pin is biased via REGN regulator. If the conditions mentioned in datasheet section 8.3.1.2 are valid REGN will turn on and TS pin will function to measure cell temperature.

Will STAT pin report Cold/Hot fault at the TS pin in such low-power conditions?

If VBUS voltage is sufficiently high a cold/hot fault on TS pin will prevent charging and STAT pin will blink.

In regards to an input supply which is not of sufficiently high current to charge a cell please take a look at section 8.3.4.1.2 'Input Voltage Dynamic Power Management'. The BQ25308 will attempt to charge at a lower current to avoid crashing a 'weak' (i.e. low current capabilities) input adapter.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett

  • If VBUS voltage is sufficiently high, but not of sufficiently high current to charge a cell, will a cold/hot fault on TS pin cause STAT pin to blink?

    What's PMID?

In which modes, except charge mode and fault mode, will a cold/hot fault on TS pin cause STAT pin to blink?

  • Hi,

As mentioned earlier, if the REGN LDO is on, the TS pin will function to measure cell temperature and STAT pin will report TS fault. e.g. in charge termination mode, REGN LDO is on and STAT pin will report TS fault.

    Thanks,

    Ning.
