LMR38020: Thermal performance of LMR38020

Part Number: LMR38020

Tool/software:

Hi Team

Customer has a new request: input 50V tp 60V, output is 12V and Iout_max=2A, Tmax=50℃.

I chose LMR38020 as the solution but I am afraid the thermal performance on 50℃,I do a simulation on webench and the power dispassion is 2.5W almost. Customer is uing 2S2P layout.

Can you help to show your insight if LMR38020 can be used in this situation? or external Mos controller is better?

Thanks!

  • Hi Harry,

Thank you for promoting our devices.  Richard is currently out of office, so let me answer you.  I checked the datasheet, and it seems a good fit for this application, and the circuit should be able to produce 2A under 60Vin (see efficiency results below).  I believe the efficiency data were taken from the EVM. Could you suggest the customer to get an EVM and verify the temperature rise as a quick path?

    Best Regards,

    Youhao

  • Hi Youhao

Thanks for your feedback, I already request the EVM to customer. I will let them test it directly.  They are afraid the thermal can't meet their system requirement, it should work on 55 degree ambient temp.

  • Hi Harry,

Thank you for getting the EVM for the customer. Let's wait their test results.  Hopefully it can work for them without issue.

Let me close this thread for the time being, and you can reopen it by adding a new post, or you can start a new thread. I think Richard would be back then :-).

    Thanks,

    Youhao
