Higher current settings in Bq20z95

One of my application require high current of around 25A. I have designed my Bq20z95 accordingly by connecting two parallel chg & dsg mosfet. PCB is working fine. But when I tried to setup my "OC 1st tier DSg" current at 21A, it says cannot exceed values than 20A. Is there any method by which I can set high current dsg cutoff or it is internal limitation of BQ20Z95.

  • Deepak,

This is a limit of the bq20z95 data flash. OC (2nd tier) Dsg has a limit of 22A, so that might be useful for you. Another method would be to 'trick' the gauge into thinking there is less current than there actually is by setting the sense resistor to a larger value (such as 10mohm) and still using the smaller one (in your case, 5mohm). This would cause the gauge to report half of the actual current. This can get pretty ugly, and many current / capacity related settings would need to be modified accordingly (such as changing the battery capacity to half of its actual value; modifying overcurrent levels).
