TPS55289: I2C: Standard-mode

Part Number: TPS55289
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987D, TPS55288

Tool/software:

Hi team,

I2C timing characteristics seems be specified according to Fast mode plus.

When Standard-mode is used, does timing spec follows I2C standard?

e.g. Rise time of Fast-mode Plus is specified as 120ns. When SCL operates less than 100kHz, does TPS55289 work properly even if Rise time is <1000ns?

Best regards,

Shota Mago

  • Hi Shota,

    Thanks for reaching out.

You are right, the I2C time is designed according to Fast Mode Plus. From our experience, it would be ok with Standard mode, recommend the customer also have try on this.

  • Hi Bryce,

    Thanks for your reply.

The customer would like to make sure if I2C communication between TPS55289 and TPS65987D surely works fine as TPS65987D only supports Standard and Fast mode.

On BU side, has the validation of I2C between these devices been confirmed(no concern although it's not Fast Mode Plus)?

According to I2C standard, Fast Mode Plus also supports Standard mode and Fast mode. The customer would like to make sure if TPS55289 follows this.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Shota,

Thanks, it should be ok with TPS55289 and TPS65987D.

We have released the reference design which used TPS55288 and TPS65987D on the link below. And the I2C communication of TPS55288 is same as TPS55289.

And also the I2C standard shows the same conclusion: Fast Mode Plus also supports Standard mode and Fast mode.
