TPS2042B: Current limit rating

Part Number: TPS2042B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2052B,

Tool/software:

Hello Technocrats,

We are using TPS2042B/TPS2052B for power switching and over current protection feature.

We want to clairfy the 1.5A meaning this IC rating current or each output pin can support 1.5A?

Thanks

  • Hi Gary,

These devices are designed to be used for 500mA continuous current applications.

If the device detects an overcurrent, it will switch into a constant current mode where the current is limited to I_os. This applies to each pin for dual-channel switches such as the TPS2042B/TPS2052B. Note that if this device is continuously in constant current mode where it needs to limit the power, the device will overheat so implementing optimal PCB thermal management techniques is imperative.

Are you looking for a dual-channel USB power switch that supports 1.5A continuous current?

    BR,

    Seong

  • Hello Seong,

So, does it mean that each pin in the dual-channel can achieve I_os (1.5A), with a maximum total input of 3A?

Or is I_os defined as the maximum total input of 1.5A?

    Thanks

  • Hi Gary,

That is correct. Each output supports I_os (1.5A) with a total input of 3A.

    BR,

    Seong
