Hi,
I am currently looking to use the LM5069 as a "40V 8A Efuse". In our application there are moments when current can flow from the output to the input while LM5069 is disabled
I was testing this on the evaluation board and it does not seem to work. Reason being the power supply goes into current limit at 10mA and using a thermal camera I can see the LM5069 is starting to heat up
I am wondering if this is due to the protection diode connecting the output to the gate pin internally to the IC?
Do you have any other recommendations of other parts that I could use that allows for current to flow from the output to the input through the body diode of the external mosfet while the driver is off
also giving overcurrent and short circuit protection when in normal operation (current flow VIN to Vout)?
Thanks for all the help,
Visaacan
Hi Visaacan,
Your power supply current limit is at 10mA? I think current is flowing through body diode which is being shown as heated up in thermal camera.

Hi Kunal,
The power supply is set to current limit at 10mA to ensure that I dont damage the eval kit doing this experiment
There is nothing connected to the input of the eval kit other than supply voltage input of the LM5069 which is disabled so I would assume the current draw would be low
As well as SW1 is off
As for the thermal image it is not the body diode as the mosfet is an external DPAK device
From the image below of the assembly drawing of the eval kit, it is easy to distinguish whether the mosfet or the controller is heating up
Let me know your thoughts,
Visaacan
Hi Visaacan,
Can you share your test setup drawing? How much VOUT you are applying?
Regards
Kunal Goel
Hi Kunal,
The test set up is positive from the power supply to the out terminal
negative from the power supply to the GND terminal and thats it
image below
The voltage used is 12V and supply is limited to 10mA

Hi Visaacan,
How much voltage you measure at VIN pin of LM5069?
Regards
Kunal Goel
Hi Kunal,
The voltage measured on VIN is 0V seems like all the current is going to the out/gate pin of the LM5059?
Regards,
Visaacan
Hi Visaacan,
This is unexpected. VOUT should flow to VIN through body diode. What is your application current and voltage requirements. Let me recommend other device for evaluation.

Hi Kunal,
I think we are going to go a different direction for our design/application
I appreciate all your help with this issue
