BQ34Z100: How to share an NTC cell temperature probe with BQ76952

Part Number: BQ34Z100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76952,

Tool/software:

My new BMS design has a BQ76952 plus a BQ34Z100 fuel gauge.

Is it possible to share the NTC between the 2 chips?

Is it possible to write the NTC value to either chip instead of using the ADC to measure the probe?

The BQ76952 biases the probe with 1.8v, and the BQ34Z100 biases the probe with 2.5v.

If not, I will have to explain that one NTC is only for the fuel gauge, and another NTC is only for cell protections.

This may not seem like a big problem, but this BMS is designed for DIY installation, so I can't control how the customers install the temperature probes, and it would be easy for problems to arise if both probes don't share the same functions.

  • Hi,

I am not familiar with what the monitor uses the thermistor for.

For the gauge, it cannot share a thermistor with another device. The gauge will send periodic pulses to read the thermistor, any other voltages from other devices will affect this reading.

Again, the thermistor needs to be on the battery pack for the best accuracy.

    Regards,

    Evan
