UCC21738-Q1: Can it drive SiC Normally-on JFET?

Part Number: UCC21738-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMG1025-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear team,

Using this device, Can we control SiC Normally-on JFET like below ?

- UJ3N120065K3S : https://www.qorvo.com/products/d/da008700

If not, would you please recommend right gate driver to drive this JFET?

Thank you.

  • Hi Dino,

It can't really drive that JFET, since UCC217xx has a UVLO level of 12V, and I see the device having an absolute maximum Vgs DC voltage of 3V. In fact, the lowest UVLO threshold we have for all isolated gate drivers is 5V, so I'm afraid none of the gate driver would be able to safely drive this type of device.

I will feed forward this information to our system team for continued development of our roadmap. Thank you!

    Vivian

  • Hello Vivian,

For clarify, There is no solution to drive JFET our isolated gate driver solution. is it right? How about non-isolated gate driver? Is it same situation?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Dino,

I cc'ed a couple of my colleagues from the non-isolated gate driver group and they'll take a look at this request.

    Thanks!

    VIvian

  • Hey Dino,

I am one of the applications engineers supporting our non-isolated gate drivers.

Looking at the requirement of Vgs being 3V maximum, we do not have a gate driver that operates that low. The closest thing to what you are requesting is the LMG1025-Q1 and it is also 5V UVLO.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thank you,

    William Moore
