LMG1210: Does it drive LMG2100R044 GaN FET?

Part Number: LMG1210
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMG2100R044

Tool/software:

Hi,

Can LMG1210 driver control LMG2100R044 GaN Mosfet ?

Thanks,

Christina

  • Hey Christina,

Thank you for reaching out with this question regarding the LMG1210.

The LMG2100R044 is a gate driver itself with integrated GaN FETs. Therefore, it does not need a gate driver to driver the internal FETs, it would just need the two PWM signals from a controller for switching its internal half-bridge.

The LMG1210 is a gate driver that is used for driving discrete FETs and so to use it, you would need to have a half-bridge power stage with two FETs external of the IC.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thank you,

    William Moore

  • Hi William,

Currently customer is not using MCU to output complimentary PWM signal, that's why they need to use LMG1210 for the dead time, complimentary control and protection. Have you seen customer using similar topology and there better way for a separate rate PWM control chip that can take in external feedback to scale PWM duty cycle ?

    Thanks,

    Christina

  • Hello Christina,

It will be very difficult to use LMG1210 to control the inputs of LMG2100R044 because the high and low outputs of LMG1210 have different voltage reference points. Can the customer use only LMG1210 driving discrete fets?

    Thanks,

    Walter
