TPS53676: Does the device auto-detect phase configuration?

Hello,

We are considering a PCB design with the TPS53676 where the number of phases on channel A may only be two.

Will the TPS53676 detect the number of attached nexFETs and come up by default?  Or do we have to program the device first to configure the number of attached devices / phases before it will start?
