BQ41Z50: Can it be used in combination with these other TI parts?

Part Number: BQ41Z50
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25751, BQ25756, BQ25731, BQ34Z100, BQ25756E, BQ25790, BQ25798, BQ25792, BQ25713

Tool/software:

We are kicking off a new hardware design and are currently in the component selection phase.

The recently announced BQ41Z50 looks like it might be a good fit, but we also need the ability to charge from USB-C PD.

The TPS TPS25751 and TPS25730D appear to be potential candidates for this.

The TI TPS25751 predates the BQ41Z50, and so currently it does not list the BQ41Z50 amongst it's compatible parts (which include the BQ25756 or the BQ25731).

Will the TPS25751 be updated to also be able to command/control the BQ41Z50 (for example, via a new firmware image, similar to how the BQ34Z100 can be updated)?

If so, when?

The TI TPS25730D does not communicate with paired BQxxx parts via I2C, and so is possibly "BQ-agnostic".

Can the TPS25730D be used in combination with the BQ41Z50?

If so, are there any Application Notes or Reference Designs on doing this?

Will there be an Evaluation Module for this particular combination?

If so, when will it be available?

Thanks! - Kevin Banks

  • Hi Kevin,

    Thank you for reaching out!

The TPS25751 has integrated I2C control for the following TI battery chargers

    • BQ25756, BQ25756E
    • BQ25790, BQ25792, BQ25798
    • BQ25713
    • BQ25731

For chargers not included on the list, they would need to be configured via MCU/EC. I will loop in our product marketing expert to provide more feedback.

    Best Regards,
