LMG3422R030: PV Inverter

Part Number: LMG3422R030

Tool/software:

Customer is interested in the TI GaN, however there're two questions here.

1. Are TI GaNs able to be connected in parallel? Is there application note or guidance?

2. Customer worried that their SMT process could have issue to do the mounting GaN on PCB. Is there any SMT guidance?

  • Hello Brian,

    1. Yes, TI GaN devices can be connected in parallel with some guidance and best practices, however before recommending paralleling we strongly encourage interleaving multiple stages which has many benefits including smaller magnetics, higher effective frequency, and phase shedding for added efficiency. I would encourage the customer to interleave first. I am sending you an email now with a presentation highlighting our recommendations for paralleling.

    2. We have been producing our GaN devices for many years with millions of devices used in the field, SMT manufacturing with QFN devices is very commonplace and should be very achievable for the customer manufacturer. We have no specific guidelines for this process, I would urge the customer to contact their manufacturer to alleviate any concerns.

    Thanks,

    Zach
