LM337: What's the difference between LM337 and LM337-N?

Part Number: LM337
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , TPS7A33

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

What's the difference between LM337 and LM337-N? Thanks in advance.

BRs,

Francis

  • Francis,

There isn't a lot of differences. However, these are legacy devices and we recommend to use a newer version if possible. "-N" devices were originally from National Semiconductors before TI acquired it.

    Thanks,

    Prakash L

  • Hi Prakash,

Thanks for your prompt reply, and have some comments as below:

    • TPS7A33 seems quite complex for designing, although only 7pins are useful, also more complex than SOT-233(4) and TO-223(3).
    • LM337's size is quite big and don't have SOT-223(4).

So from my understanding, maybe LM337-N is still the most suitable choose for customer now. Any wrong, please feel free to correct me, thank.

    BRs,

    Francis

  • Francis,

Yes, LM337-N can be used by the customer. However, I would like to mention that it's a legacy device. We will have more negative LDO's in the future as we refresh our portfolio.

    Thanks,

    Prakash L
