UCC28070: ask different results between two years web bench(2022.1) and now web bench(2024.7)

Part Number: UCC28070

Tool/software:

Dear TI

i verify web bench for ucc28070 below condition

Vac: 190~265

Vout: 390V

Iout: 9V

custum freq: 30kHz

other condition : dithering + best eff

20220129_제니스_TI_PFC_재검토_20220615_WBDesign230.pdf

20240710_MPP_TI_PFC_UCC28070_WBDesign281.pdf

i find some different value of parts(maybe five parts)

and most value of different parts is similar.(Cpv Ccdr Cpbc, Cpca)

but Cfa, Cfb is very different. 220nF(2022) > 220pF(2024)

L3,L3 inductance is so different. 220uH(2022) > 174uH(2024) ( it is not possible to control custum inductance)

i have two question.

First Question different value of parts, Cfa Cfb is so different, why? which do i choice value?

Second Question, PFC inductance, how do i tune for custom inductance of web bench?

Best regards, Choi

  • Hello Choi,

Thank you for your interest in the UCC28070 family of PFC controllers.

In the earlier Webench, 220nF for Cfa and Cfb was a programming mistake. 220nF would make the RC filtering for noise on the CSA and CSB signals too much and round off the signal too much.  We discovered this problem recently and revised the program to recommend an appropriate capacitance value.

I don't know what changed in the design algorithm for inductance.  I do know that it should be changed again, though.
The UCC28070A datasheet was updated in Dec 2023 with a new method for calculating boost inductance which is better suited for high input voltage designs.
Webench has not yet been updated to this new method.  I recommend that you follow the UCC28070A datasheet method (not from UCC28070 or UCC28070-Q1) for inductor design. Datasheet: https://www.ti.com/lit/gpn/UCC28070A see page 35.

Then you can load a custom value of inductance into the Webench design this way:
    1.  Let Webench construct a design.
    2.  Click on each boost inductor.  A window will come up with details on the inductor.
    3.  At the bottom of the detail window is a roll-over link "CHOOSE ALTERNATE".  Click on that link and another window will come up with one or more horizontal listings of parts.
    4.  Above that list is a roll-over link: "Create a custom part".  Click on that link and another window will come up with options to choose different parameters for that inductor.  Fill in the inductance that you calculated using the UCC28070A datasheet procedure.  Do this for both boost inductors.

    Regards,

    Ulrich

  • Dear Ulrich

    Thanks you!! Good reply!!

i use recently web bench result.

    설명해줘서 고마워요~!

    Best regards, Choi
