Hello,

R1 should remain the same even when using lower cell counts and parallel MOSFETs. You can refer to Figure 2. Typical 7S Parallel FET Schematic of the Parallel Paths with the BQ769x2 Battery Monitor application note for a reference schematic that has a lower cell count and parallel MOSFETs.
