TPS543C20A: Switching Noise

Part Number: TPS543C20A

Tool/software:

Hi Britton,

Another question on this part. We noticed on our current switcher that the ringing from the switching wasn't negligible. Do you have any recommendations on how to reduce this . The data sheet mentions using both a snubber and special high frequency bypass caps.   Do you think the bypass caps would be enough?

Thanks,

Matt

  • Hi Matt,

A 2.2nF-10nF bypass capacitor placed as close as possible to the PVIN pins is usually enough to reduce ringing to an acceptable level. In applications with high VIN, a snubber can also be used but is not usually needed. It is a good idea to add a placeholder for the snubber components in your layout for future-proofing,  but is not a requirement to reduce the sw ringing as the bypass capacitor will do most of the heavy lifting.

    Best regards,

    Britton
