TPS65987DDK: TPS65987DDK

Part Number: TPS65987DDK

Tool/software:

Hi Chris,

The way I am using power on the U6(TPS65987DDK):

[I am using Host  power "VBUS_5V0" as an input and the PPHV1 as an output] - Do you think it would be better to use the PPHV2 path (instead of PPHV1 path) for my PPHV_5V0 output and short pins 11&12 to GND instead of 1&2?

Do you have any recommendation?

Please let me know.

Thank you a lot.

Pavel

  • Hi Pavel,

There are no recommendations on which power path to use, either or (PPHV1 or PPHV2) is fine. You can easily change the power path selection through the Global System Configuration register 0x27 and changing the field based on if this is a sink only, source only, or DRP power path.

Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns!

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Hi Raymond,

Thank you a lot for fast reply!

    Just for clarification:

If the VBUS1,2 (pins 3,4,13,14) on U6 are inputs for the "VBUS5V0" (Host power) then PPHV1 (pins 11,12) are outputs for all power on the board. So, in this case PPHV1 should be consider as a SOURCE. Am I correct?

    Please confirm.

    Thank you.

    Pavel

  • Hi Pavel,

Since the USB-C port is receiving power from the connected host, the PD is in the sink role. The power path source/sink option reflects the PD power role, therefore should be set to "PP Switch as Sink Only (input)" for PPHV1 in this case.

Setting the option to "PP Switch as Source Only (output)" is for designs where the PD (TPS65987DDK) is acting as a source (providing power) to the far-end device.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Hi Raymond,

Great, thank you very much for clarification (I was confused about it).

I appreciate your fast responses and all your help.

    Thank you so much!
