TUSB1046-DCI: query

Part Number: TUSB1046-DCI

Tool/software:

Requirement for USB C DisplayPort (DP Alt Mode) to drive touch screen display details below,

  • Needs to support audio, video, and touchscreen over USB C port
  • The display is 3m to 5m faraway from unit. A 3-to-5-meter USB C cable need to be use.

To implement this, selected TI parts and need your help for following queries,

  1. Crosspoint Switch
    • The crosspoint switch (Part Nr: TUSB1046-DCI) is having a linear redriver without DCI. What is the function of DCI?
    • What is the length of USB C cable it supports with internal redriver.
    • Is any additional equalization redriver require for to support 3m to 5m cable length
  • Hi,

    1. DCI is intel's Direct Connect Interface. Its purpose is for debugging and you can read more about it here.

    2. The length of the cable depends on the cable loss. USB-C allows a cable to have up to 6dB of loss:

At 10G data this is typically around 1 meter for a passive cable. Its possible to have a longer cable if the cable is using a low loss material or it is an active cable.

    3. You may need an active cable to reach 3-5m. It really depends on which cable you're using because loss is the concern, not length.

    Best,

    Shane
