I want to design a DC-DC converter with the following specifications, but Webench recommends a large size inductor. (74437349047 Wurth Elektronik)

- Input : 5~12V

- Output : 3.3V / 1A

I think a more compact and cheaper inductor can be used.

Do I have to use the inductor recommended by Webench?

HI Jeong,

You can use any 4.7uH inductor with larger than 3A I(sat).

1. Could you explain why i need to use an inductor with a saturation current above 3A?

2. Although i change the inductance to 6.8uH, Do i still need to use an inductor with a saturation current above 3A?

Hi Jeong,

If over current happens at output, as device over current limit is more than 3A, so inductor current will also over 3A.

Even if i use low current, do all TI products with 3A current protection have to use inductor with sat current over 3A?
