TPS92601-Q1: Boost to Vin

Part Number: TPS92601-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello all

The customer asking for the boost to Vin design instead of normal boost, as shown in fig.

Q1. What is the advantage we are getting over this boost to input instead of normal boost. ?

We will be having an application where 8 LEDs in series. Total LED string voltage comes around 27V. The input voltage is 13V

Q2. What will be the output voltage (Vout with respect to gnd) then in boost Vin mode ? is it 13 + 27 = 40V. Ryt ?

Regards

Anoop

  • Anoop,

If your LEDs cathode can be connected to gnd and only boost is required, you can just use boost topology.

For boost to VBAT, LEDs cathode is connected to VBAT instead of gnd. Vout-VBAT can be higher or lower than VBAT(like buck -boost)

Q2, Yes. it's right. If Vo is always higher than VBAT, then boost circuit is ok.
