BQ25892: Device Switching Loss Estimator/Simulation

Part Number: BQ25892

Tool/software:

Does TI provide a switching loss estimator or simulation model for P/N BQ25892?

  • Hi James,

We do not have a switching loss estimator or model available for BQ25892.

For calculating power loss through the BQ25892 I recommend referring to the efficiency plots (Figures 8-1 and 8-2) on datasheet page 16.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett

  • Hi Garrett,

Please provide more specifics (Schematic, Parts List) of the circuit that was used for these figures. What was the % of current ripple?  What does the DCR of 10 milliohm represent? An application note describing how to interpret the Charge Efficiency vs Charge Current graphs may be helpful.

  • Hi James,

    Thank you for your comments.

The BQ25892EVM board was used to collect efficiency figures. Product page for the evaluation board is linked here: https://www.ti.com/tool/BQ25892EVM-664 . From the product page you can reference the EVM User's Guide which provides schematic and BOM for the board.

The DCR of 10 mohm is in reference to the inductor used to collect the results. Let me point out the 10mohm DCR inductor used for efficiency test is not the default inductor populated on the EVM board.

If you know your planned input voltage and charge current you can use the relevant efficiency value from the figure to calculate required input current for a certain output current and therefore also calculate expected power loss due to BQ25892 operation.

What was the % of current ripple?

Datasheet section 10.2.2.1 provides information on expected ripple current given operating conditions.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
