TPS65987D: Source EDA files for TPS65987D and other EVM's

Part Number: TPS65987D

Tool/software:

Why is TI so stingy with providing links to either Altium or Orcad source CAD/EDA files of the EVM PCB's?  Every other manufacturer does so - it makes it easy for the customer to design in your product.  And isn't that what you want - to sell IC's?  I recall 30 years ago Molex, AMP, etc... not releasing 3D models for their parts.  So along comes Samtec - who DOES release the 3D models.  So guess where all the engineers went?  To Samtec.

It makes little sense to restrict access to the reference designs.  You know how your part works.  You provide EVM's for the parts.  Make the source CAD/EDA files available - without having to beg for them.

Geez...

  • Hello Wayne,

Thanks for the feedback.  We have tried to provide this information via the Ultra Librarian.

  • No I know that - what I'm talking about is the dev kit schematics and layouts.  Not just the part symbol and footprint.

TI used to be so good with support like this. I've been doing this for 40 years - designed over 3,000 products - see my portfolio here: https://www.ajawamnet.com

I don't know what happened, but TI's been really weird to deal with lately... kinda like all the new tech companies that hide behind their web presence with little support.  This is not what we envisioned forty years ago when we were building up all this tech.

And BTW Ultralibrarian isn't the most reliable - I find errors in their stuff all the time.  - Same with Snap and Samacsys. In fact, I recently found the same error in the Mouser Samacsys models that were present in the Ultralibrarian models

This is why it's nice when a vendor provides the EVM schematics and symbols for their dev kits.  You know the symbols and footprints have been vetted.

  • Hi Wayne,

Understand the concern, and I can't speak to some of the issues in Ultra Librarian you have seen in the past, but our team uses the same Ultra Librarian footprint for our EVMs.

While we cannot share the TPS65987EVM design files due to licensing concerns, we do have a number of reference designs that you can get the files for that do contain the TPS65987D on them. If you go to the product page for the TPS65987D, go down to reference designs, you will see a number of designs that you can get the full design files for
