TPS63900: Input current limit + Simulation

Part Number: TPS63900

Tool/software:

Hello TI-Team,

Iwant to use the TPS63900 in a battery powered application. The battery voltage is 3.6 V and I want to limit the maximum output current of the battery with the input current limit of the TPS63900. The output voltage of the TPS is 3.3 V.

I'm currently trying to get the input current limit working for the simulation of the TPS63900 in PSpice. However I get the same simulation results for all ICL values and the ICL value doesn't seem to change anything.
These are my Simulation results and the schematic used:

Output voltage (green), input current (red)

Schematic of simulation

The input current is measured on the VIN pin of the IC. I expected the Simulation results to look something like the picture from the Datasheet:

I know the Input and Output capacitance is way lower than the given ones in Figure 8-38. Even when I changed the capacitance values in my simulation I still got these High current spikes.

I have two Questions for the application:

1. Is it possible to get the same results from the datasheet with the given PSpice Simulation? (does the input current limit even work for the simulation?)

2. Is it possible to limit the input current to permanent 100 mA or are there always high current spikes (i.e. 600 mA)?

if there are these Spikes, is it possible to limit them to a maximum of 400 mA?

I'm looking forward to your responses.

Best regards,

Max

  • Hi  Max,

I am afraid input current limit is not implemented in PS model.

For input current limit feature of TPS63900, it is a averange current limit, no peak current limit feature for this device. Actual peak current limit is depend on your actual app conditions, such as input voltage.
