Please provide information on the Host I/F of battery chargers in order to organise the component selection criteria.

1) In TI's battery chargers, the Host I/F may be I2C or SMBus, what are the advantages of using SMBus?

2) If the Host side only supports I2C, is there any problem with adopting SMBUS battery charger?
We would appreciate it if you could provide us with the technical rationale as well.

HI, Kagawa,

We usually select SMBus charger since the smart battery uses SMBus. Then you can directly connect them on the same bus, otherwise, the host might need two set of ports, one I2C for the charger and one SMBus for the smart battery.

Is it possible to connect SMBus Battery Charger to Host's I2C without any problem?
