TPS22916: TPS22916 IC

Part Number: TPS22916

Tool/software:

We used TSP22916CN(slow, no QOD) IC that was made maybe 2020 year for our pcb. after SMT, we found this IC has an issue, it's VOUT voltage is always high although ON signal is low. we did X-ray test for this IC but we could not find any root cause after this X-ray test on IC side.

Please let me know the way how to check the root cause of this fail IC.

  • Hi!

Can you please answer the following: -

    • Can you share the schematic
    • How many parts are failing? What is the failure percentage
    • Is this issue permanent with IC or they can recover?
    • Any tests performed before seeing this fail
    • Do you have EVM? Did you try with that?
    • A-B-A test to check if the issue follows device or PCB

Based on these questions, we will try to understand the issue better and will take next actions.

    Best Regards,
    Arush

  • the schematic is as below

on signal is connecte to the MCU gpio

    • How many parts are failing? What is the failure percentage : 10% fail.
    • Is this issue permanent with IC or they can recover? : can not recover
    • Any tests performed before seeing this fail: no
    • Do you have EVM? Did you try with that?: no
    • A-B-A test to check if the issue follows device or PCB

The output is always high or always low even thoug the gpio control pin activate. I'd like to know if we can remove this fail issue when we use QOD IC

  • Hi Sangyun,

    I apologies for delayed response.

Is there any update from your side regarding the case.

It looks like A-B-A test should be performed to verify if the issue follows the IC. Changing to QOD IC shouldn't make much difference as this looks like IC is failing (short or open or damage to ON pin).

What are the voltage level seen at these pins? Do you have any waveforms?

    Best regards,
    Arush

  • Hi Arush.

I have a plan to change this tps22916 to SGM2572(SGMICRO) becuase of this issues. We already checked this IC can be replaced with TI chip in terms of footprint as well. chip specification is also very simillar with TI's. Thanks
