TPS22998: Over rated current

Hi Amrit,

I am considering a circuit that will turn off the TPS22998 if it detects a short circuit current, but because there is a delay time, a small amount of current exceeding 10A will flow.
Could you please tell me the maximum peak current that can flow and for how long?

There is no definite time we can guess for the thermal shutdown to hit after it exceeds 10A.

Since it depends on ambient temp, heat sink, copper area etc.

However, it can definitely take current above 10A for few milliseconds before the thermal shutdown.

Even if the current exceeds 10A, will this not affect reliability if it is stopped before the thermal shutdown protection is activated?

Based on the power supply's performance, 20A will flow when the load is short-circuited. Will this be OK if I stop the current immediately?

Stopping the current before 10A is the best option.

Do you have short circuit protection in your device?

You can use two load switches in parallel also.
