TPS23881: PCUT bit not set after shorting cable

Part Number: TPS23881

Tool/software:

When not upgrading TPS23881 or using V5 version, shorting channels would result in PCUT bit set for the channel @ registers 06h and 07h, using version V15 this bit is not set.
Please advise if there is an additional configuration required, this is an intended change or a bug?

Note: this is reproducible in Semiauto and Diagnostic/Manual channel operating modes.

Looks like up to V5, PCUT bit @0x6 is set immediately, but not ILIM @0x8, where as using V15, PCUT bit is not set but ILIM is set.  This change is expected?

Best Regards,
Reinis.

  • Hi Reinis,

It will depend on your Tovld and your Tlim settings as to which bit is set and which fault is induced.

As you can see from below, we would expect to see a Tlim timer to expire prior to a Pcut fault occuring. This is expected behavior in a short circuit scenario. Since you would immediately foldback due to overcurrent at which point your Tlim and Tovlc timers would begin. Ilim would be the expected bahavior in short circuit scenario.

    Regards,

    Brandon
