TPS60400-Q1: -12V from Charge pump circuit - x3 or x4 configuration

Part Number: TPS60400-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Customer is looking for -12V from +12V with Charge pump or other way without Inductor(Simple circuit as much as possible).

one of TPS60400-Q1 application circuit is saying Doubling Inverter but not sure can add more circuits o generate -12V from 4V or 3V.

Could you please check and let me know any simple way to generate -12V?

BR

Lenny Lee.

  • Hi Lenny,

Unfortunately there is no simple way to generate -12V from LVB Charge pumps.

I have seen customers cascade 2 or 3 (max) TPS6040x. Theoretically feasible however the output impedance may be higher when you cascade and this will impact efficiency. So you may need to account for this additional loss for each stage.

The other way would be to use an MVB buck to generate -12V. Please refer to the following Reference Design.

I would be curious to learn more about the use-case/ exact application implementation.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions.

    Thanks,

    Febin
