BQ25895: USB PD and Solar Panel Compatible 3.6V Li-Ion Battery Charger Recommendation

Part Number: BQ25895
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25638, BQ25985

Tool/software:

Hello,

In our sensor project, we are using BQ25895 but we need a new IC recommendation.

Our battery shall be 3.6V Li-Ion battery pack that could reach 17500mAh capacity.

The battery pack shall be charged with solar panel, from 5V out SMPS and USB with PD feature.

We need a fast charge for USB. Our USB connector shall be a Type-C connector.

The USB connector data lines are connected to the MCU.

Could you recommend a battery charger IC according to the mentioned features and situations?

Also, can the battery charger ICs measure the battery level? If it can what is the precision? (We do not need a high-precision measurement for the battery level)

Best regards,

Egemen Aksoy

  • Hello, does your project have one input from solar ,and the other from USB PD? or they share the same input to charger IC? for USB PD, will your project see 5V, 9V etc? or only 5V. In any case, please consider BQ25638  https://www.ti.com/product/BQ25638  is our latest update from BQ2589x family. BQ25638 supports battery voltages from 3.5 - 4.8V (10mV/step) , wider input ( 3.9-18V ) and higher abs tolerance 26V. You might be able to save the 5V SMPS or protection IC.

BQ25638 also has 12 bit ADC which shall provide better resolution to measure battery voltage vs BQ25985 7 bit ADC  . However, we don't provide any sort of accuracy spec in the datasheet and it depends on customers' implementation.
