TUSB1046A-DCI: What is the difference btw TUSB1146 supporting UHBR10 and TUSB1046 supporting UHBR3

Part Number: TUSB1046A-DCI
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1146

Tool/software:

Hi team,

As my understands, those difference is only AEQ. However TUSB1146 supports UHBR10 though TUSB1046 supports only UHBR3. Is it comes from just a adaptive equalization? Because USB signal rate is also same.

Best regards,

Hayashi

    TUSB1046 supports DP1.4 HBR3 or 8.1Gbps. TUSB1146 supports DP2.1 UHBR10 or 10Gbps. TUSB1046 does not support AEQ while TUSB1146 supports AEQ. Both TUSB1046 and TUSB1146 support USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 or 10Gbps.

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi David,

Yes, I know them from the datasheet, but my question is why the supported DP compliance is different due to only AEQ?

For example, there is a test on UHBR10, which TUSB1146 with AEQ can pass but TUSB1046 is not able to pass.

    Regards,

    Hayashi

The supported DP compliance is not determined by the AEQ. The supported DP compliance is determined by the re-driver design itself.

The TUSB1046 can only support up to HBR3 or 8.1Gbps, it will not pass the UHBR10 compliance. UHBR10 is outside of the TUSB1046 design spec.

The TUSB1046 only supports fixed EQ so EQ has to be tuned in order to pass the DP compliance. The TUSB1146 supports both AEQ and fixed EQ.

    Thanks

    David
