BQ76905: <= 5S battery pack balancer

Part Number: BQ76905
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76922, BQ77915

Tool/software:

Hi evryone,

I want to make small balancing board so i could balance packs of 3S-5S.

I want the balancer to overcome 1V or more of diffrence (if this is not possible i would be happy to know what is the max duffrence i can get to start balancing)

I want it to be plug and play essentially i want to plug the battery and that the balancing will start immidiatly.

I will be happy to get some recomendations for IC for this project.

much regards,

stas

  • Hi Stas,

    The BQ76905 is a potential option. One thing to note with this device is you would need an MCU to control the device and control the balancing.

    Another option is the BQ76922. This is a 3-5s device which can be OTPed by customers with startup settings to allow it to automatically balance cells with its automated algorithm. Essentially, you could use this one without an MCU but would need to write the OTP on the device during production.

  • THANK YOU,

    I saw the BQ76922 but i think i got missundersud i am looking to build pack balancer is there in the market some ic that does only balancing?

  • Hi Stas,

    The only other IC in our portfolio is the BQ77915, which is a 5s protector that can cell balance. We don't have any ICs in our portfolio (BMS) which are exclusively for cell balancing.
