LMG1205: GaNFET half bridge Driver recommend

Part Number: LMG1205
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMG1210, LM5113-Q1, LM5108

Tool/software:

Hi team,

Recently my customer want to kick-off a totem-pole PFC project in air-con, and I want to promote the GaNFET half bridge driver to customer. So could you help to select suitable devices and solve my problem as below? Thanks a lot.

  • The totem-pole PFC topology as below and AC to DC is 220VAC to 400VDC. my customer decided to use competitor's GaNFET (without driver) because TI hasn't GaNFET of TO package. So what is the suitable half bridge driver in this system? I found TI has only three cheaper GaNFAE half bridge driver (LMG1205, LMG1210, LM5113-Q1), so if these three half bridge drivers all can be used in this totem-pole project?
  • And besides these three devices, if other MOSFET half bridge drivers, such as LM5108, can be used as GaNFET driver? What is the different between MOSFET half bridge driver and GaNFET half bridge driver?

BR,

Ryker

  • Hi Ryker,

We don't have a GaN driver that is rated for 400V system. The closest is our LMG1210 which has an abs. maximum of VHS of 300V.

Typically, GaNFETs require a precise 5-6V drive due to Vgs of those FETS and our GaN drivers are specifically meant to drive that precisely. GaNFETs also typically have faster operating conditions so our GaN drivers have faster switching characteristics compared to non-GaN drivers (for example, LMG1205 has a 7ns rise, 3.5ns fall time).

    Thanks,

    Jeremiah
