LM5160: Selection of Fly Buck-Boost

Part Number: LM5160

Tool/software:

Dear Experts,

We are looking for a Isolated Fly Buck-Boost Converter for our automotive applications.

Input voltage is 9-60V and output voltage is 12V/6A.

I have searched in Ti website but I couln't find to match our requirements.

Regards,

Naveen S

  • Hello Naveen,

Fly-Buck boost is not a suitable topology for your application, we do not have any devices that would meet your specification.  suggest using a traditional Flyback or a forward for your application.

    Hope this helps.

    David.

  • Hi David,

I'm not able to boost the voltage if i use the Flyback topology right?

  • Hello Naveen,

You can on the secondary by using a step up, but primary voltage cannot boost, please not if using step up transformer, then you will have challenges with stable operation if exceeding ~1:2 turns ratio.  from your spec you VIN min is lower than you VOUT primary.  this is not possible to meet your specification using Fly-buck not only because of said challenges, but output current of 6A is way beyond converter capability.

    David.
