This is in continuation to my early post "BQ27Z561: Chemistry ID generated indicated different chemistry of cell"

I have logged the relax-discharge-relax cycle from my setup with bq27z561 Fuel gauge, as advised the relax period after discharge of at least 5 hours.

I have generated the report using the GPCCHEM tool, but this time too I got a data showing different chemistry of cell.

I have a lithium-ion cell, and the report mentions best match as LiMn2O4 (Co, Ni)/carbon, 4.35V

From the report: "Best chemical ID : 374 Best chemical ID max. deviation, % : 1.39"

I have attached the report, datasheet and the data that I submitted to the GPCCHEM tool.

Is it safe to use this chemistry ID and program it in the FG?

If not, can you please have a look at the report file generated and tell me which chemistry ID will be best for my cell?

Hello Trezen,

I recommend using the chemID with the lowest DoD % error from the GPCCHEM tool.

In the GPCCHEM report file, I am getting the chemistry of the cell as LiMn2O4 (Co, Ni)/carbon (looked up in BQStudio), but I have the cell with chemical composition of LiCoO2/Carbon.
Can I program the chemistry ID of LiMn2O4 (Co, Ni)/carbon cell to a cell which has chemical composition of LiCoO2/Carbon?

Hello,

Yes, what really matters most here is using a chemID that has the lowest DOD % error for the best performance.

Hello Robert,
I used the chemistry ID that has the lowest DOD % error from the generated report.
I programmed the chemistry ID and then I am doing charging and discharging cycles.
I am observing one issue that the RSOC reported by Fuel Gauge does not reach to 100%. The RSOC goes only upto 98% even when the battery is Full. Previously with the old battery we were getting RSOC 100% when the battery Full was indicated.
Can you please help us resolve this issue?

Hello Robert,

I have not done the learning cycles because we did not have any change in the fuel gauge parameters for our application.

We just changed the chemistry ID and are now testing with the golden image generated.

Will I need to do the learning cycles for just chemistry ID change?

Hello Trezen,

Yes, you will need to complete the learning cycle before you should look at the RSOC reported by the gauge since you are using a matched chemID. Please refer to this document on achieving the successful learning cycle.
