Part Number: TPS54160A
Tool/software:
I've been designing power converters using the TPS54160ADRCR but I've noticed that the inductor calculation on page 32 of the datasheet only specifies the output current, not a minimum or maximum. I've noticed in calculating for various loads, that as my load decreases, the inductance increases for a given fixed frequency. This can be problematic if space on the PCB is limited, but I'm also unsure of which way to design with the inductor. If I'm designing for a transient load, ranging from 50mA to 1.25A, should I use the larger inductance or the smaller? Is there any loss if I use the inductor rated for the larger current load, but I operate at the lower current load?
