TPS23730: 4kV Surge Test

Part Number: TPS23730

Tool/software:

Hi expert,

Customer used TPS23730 and did 4kV surge test with PSE injector and system would re-boot. If PSE injector change a DC 48V for TPS23730 and do surge again, PD side system won't re-boot.

May I know if the app note Lightning Surge Considerations for PoE Power Sourcing Equipment Devices tested with PSE and PD connected or just PSE standalone?

Is there any possibilities something we can improve on PD side?

Regards,

Allan

  • Hi Allan,

    Thanks for reaching out!

    - Could you draw a simplified diagram to show the impulse voltage (+ and -) was connected at which locations? The CM choke could be added between the two connection points to increase the impedance and reduce surge current

    - During the surge test, did you observe the PSE turns off the port? If a DC 48V could work and PSE injector did not, the ESD ruggedness of PSE injector also could be improved.

    - Can you share the schematic if needed?

    Best regards,

    Diang
