TPS23730: +12v_DC adaptor and PSE select

Part Number: TPS23730

Tool/software:

Hi Sir,

if we want to design dual input, we can also use +12v adapter input, can the following be use?

or we must be use option 3? because we find this discuss link as below, so +12v passive injector can not be use in such application? is it because the UVLO of TPS23730? or the UVLO of IEEE802.3xx protocol?

  • Hi Tommy,

    Thanks for reaching out!

TPS23730 has two dies. The PD die needs VDD-VSS > 13V to work. The PWM die needs VDD-RTN > 8.5V to work.

At option 2, if your adapter is 12V, you can activate the PWM die with APD = H, but the PD die could be in idle mode. For example, at 12V and APD is high, your gate can have output and your output voltage could be the regulated value. But your TPH/TPL/BT will be in default mode (Hi-z). It may not be an issue if you just want to use it as a standalone DC/DC with 12V adapter.

    Best regards,

    Diang

  • Hi Diang,

got it, thanks for your great support and help .

  • Hi Tommy,

You are welcome. Be sure that when using option2, your VDD-VSS will still have a voltage as below diagram.

If you let your VDD-VSS > 13V, it is more recommended. For example, your TPH/TPL/BT will be the same as the datasheet described (L/L/Hi-z or L/L/L) when APD is H. If your VDD-VSS is below 13V, your TPH/TPL/BT will be in default mode (Hi-z)

    Best regards,

    Diang
