TPS1H000-Q1: Current limit switch over

Part Number: TPS1H000-Q1

Tool/software:

For an application I require a high side switch to control a solenoid. Solenoid should first be turned fully on and than the current reduced.

As close by are very sensitive circuits I would rather not use PWM foldback. I can implement a circuit myself or maybe use the TPS1H000 for instance.

As I need to switch over between 2 current limits and would need continuous current in limit mode, is is possible to connect two resistors to the CL pin and switch between them via two n channel fets.

So first use for instance 500mA current limit and switch over to 100mA after for instance 3sec?

The chip will of course dissipate the energy but that should be doable thermally as the dissipation would typically be 1.2W.

  • Hi Thomas,

Yes, this is supported by this device. It should be fine for continuous operation, but please nevertheless make sure in your verification that the device won't enter thermal shutdown when it is limiting the current to 500mA during your highest ambient temperature. If your input voltage is high then the part could be dissipating a bit more power than 1.2W.

    Thanks,

    Patrick
