TPS25751: TPS25751 with BQ25XX

Part Number: TPS25751
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25790, BQ25798, BQ25792, BQ25713, BQ25758

Tool/software:

I am developing a circuit that is Dual Role power and data based on the TPS25751 and need PPS functionality.

I don't need battery charging.

Which of the following would be the best choice

BQ25790, BQ25792, BQ25798, BQ25713, BQ26756?

If no battery is present what if anything is installed on those pins?

Thanks,

Rick

  • HI Rick,

The battery charge devices only provide PPS voltage and current when running in reverse mode and powered by the battery.  What will be the power source at the charger's BAT pin?  It seems you only need a dc/dc converter. There are dc/dc converters that are PPS compliant.

  • Hi Jeff,

The application is USB-C, USB-PD charging a Android Tablet

I have 45-60W of DC power available

What IC would you recommend for this application?

    Thanks,

    Rick

  • Hi Rick,

The BQ2579x family is limited to 3.3A output in reverse/OTG/source mode so it is not able to utilize all of your 45-60W.  For your power level, I recommend BQ25758, which is the BQ2575x dc/dc converter spin.  Your 45-60W will connect to the BQ25758's VAC input as it is not a battery charger.

    Regards,

    Jeff
