TPS65224-Q1: is WKUP_I2C0 and MCU_I2C0 necessary for the PMIC

Part Number: TPS65224-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Experts

Now we are using PMIC of TPS6522430RAHRQ1 and AM62P54. My questions are as follows, could you help answer it?

1、For automotive functional safety use cases, connect MCU_I2C0.So what is the purpose of connecting WKUP_MCU0?

2、Is it OK for the PMIC not to connect to MCU_I2C0 and WKUP_I2C0 for the customer's product? We want to use MCU_I2C0 and WKUP_I2C0 for other purposes.

  • Hi Yong,

    1. The MCU_I2C0 (connected to the GPIO1 and GPIO2 pins of the PMIC) is used for watchdog and is needed to service it. The WKUP_I2C0 (connected to the I2C pins of the PMIC) is used for configuring and reading data from PMIC. This is used to read interrupts for example and access the ADC data.

    2. You have to connect the MCU_I2C0 to be able to communicate with the watchdog and not to receive interrupts due to not serving it. WKUP_I2C0 needs to be connected to read interrupts and other information.

Since you can connect multiple devices in the I2C bus you can use these buses for the PMIC and at the same time for other purposes.

    regards,

    Niko
