TPS2482: Using the TPS2482 as E-Fuse - Current Limiter

Hello,

We're using the TPS2482 as E-Fuse current limiter for the resistive load of 5 ohm.

VIN = 28V

R_SESNSE = 9mOhm

Current Limit = 5A

Timer cap = 330nF

R3 = 499K

R4 = 10K

Output MOSFET is SUM70030 of VISHAY

While the resistive load is disconnected, the E-Fuse is turning on by asserting EN pin.

When resistive load is attached to the output of the E-Fuse, the pulse current that occurs is 5A, but pulse width is about 10ms instead of the expected 50ms.

Appreciate for any advice of how to raise the pulse current width to be 50ms

Thanks for reaching out!

We have integrated solutions TPS1663 to overcome all these design solutions.

Coming to this design.. what is the set power limit? The power limit should be increased to start with load at output which causes more stress to the hot-swap MOSFET.

Generally, we recommend to enable the load using PG output of the TPS2482

Hello Rakesh,

I'm trying to set the power limit by adjusting the R3 and R4.

The power limit should be 140W.

Are you using the EVM for testing?

Not sure which R3 and R4 you are referring.

Hello Amrit,

I used the mentioned above calculator and got for the desired power limit of 147W, Rprog1 and Rprog2 should be as follows:

Rprog1 (resistance from VREF to VPROG) = 10.2K

Rprog2 (resistance from VPROG to GND) = 20K

Do these values make sense? Because in this case VPROG = 2.65V, thus does not exceed the 4V
