BQ25798: BQ25798 report poor resource and stop charger

Part Number: BQ25798

Tool/software:

Hi  Sir,

Our BQ25798 charger, the input power resource is a battery, it can supply enough current, it charge a 4s2p battery, the charger current is 0.5A. we find it ofen stop charge internal battery before the battery full. we check the register, it report poor resource mistake. we reset all registor or reinstall internal battery, it sitll can't recharger battery. only need reinstall input power resource, it can charger.

Attached is our power block diagram and schematic.

  • Hi Dennis,

That is strange.  Poor source is only checked at initial power up to see if VBUS falls below 3.4V.  Is it possible that the input external battery's protector is opening?

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

The external battery works well, we reduce the value of VINDPM to 9.6V, and tested two days, it works well, not reproduce this issue. Since we need to frequently change the external battery power supply, our software engineer sets this register every 2 seconds, I think this is not a good method, can you give us some suggestions?

  • Hi Dennis,

I do not understand how reducing instead of increasing VINDPM would prevent poor source but if it works, go with it.  VINDPM is autoset at startup and doesn't change until input voltage goes below then back above UVLO, i.e. VBUS remove/attach.

    Regards,

    Jeff
