UCC21330-Q1: Used as non-isolated driver

Part Number: UCC21330-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21330

Tool/software:

Whether UCC21330 can be used as non-isolated driver?

Which means VSS is connected with GND.

A Channel VDD is 12V compared with SW pin.

B channel VDD is 12V compared with VSS pin.

But HV-DC-link is still 800V or 1200V.

Is there any concern?

  • Hi Fabio,

If the VSS/PGND is connected to the primary side ground, there is concern for noise affecting the primary side of the driver.

With these ground connected, there would be no guarantee for the isolation specifications. Especially with the HV bus being in the magnitude of 800V/1200V, there will be a major concern for power stage transients being seen from the primary side of the gate driver.

What is the reason for wanting to connect these ground together?

    Regards,

    Hiroki
