TPS23523: Question in start into short and Hot short situation

Part Number: TPS23523

Tool/software:

Hi,

What is the status in start into short and Hot short(start-up or Normal mode?)

When will the Timer be trigger in start into short and Hot short process?

How do we obtain the 1.1ms in datasheet? Is it only by measurement or we can calculate?

What is the reason that gate drop to zero in below figure?

Thank you,

Yishan Chen

  • Hello Yishan,

What is the status in start into short and Hot short(start-up or Normal mode?)

Start into short means device is starting during output short condition.

Hot short means output is shorted when device is On.

When will the Timer be trigger in start into short and Hot short process?

Timer usually triggers during current limiting not during start into short or hot short.

How do we obtain the 1.1ms in datasheet? Is it only by measurement or we can calculate?

1.1mS is the measured value for the particular example. It's basically saying should be able to pass this much current for Teq time which should be under SOA.

What is the reason that gate drop to zero in below figure?

Gate is going low there because device is detecting fast trip (output short) and turning off the gate.

  • Hi Amrit,

What is the status in start into short and Hot short(start-up or Normal mode?)

Start into short means device is starting during output short condition.

Hot short means output is shorted when device is On.

I know the meaning of start into short and hot short. I want to know what is the device status facing these two condition. Is device in Start-up or Normal mode?

Also, in the start into short and hot short condition, the devices will start the timer only if when the current reaches the current limit, right? What is the current limit in that situation? CL2 Fast trip or the normal CL2.

    Thank you,

    Yishan Chen

  • Hello Yishan,

What is the current limit in that situation? CL2 Fast trip or the normal CL2.

Normal current limit set by user.

    Thanks

    Amrit
