BQ41Z50: What is the purpose of the CC and ICC bits in BatteryMode?

Part Number: BQ41Z50
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25720,

Tool/software:

To ask it a different way, what does "Internal Charge Controller" refer to in this context?

It is my understanding that the BQ41Z50 requires it be paired with a part such as the BQ25720.

See for example https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management-group/power-management/f/power-management-forum/1401044/bq41z50-does-the-bq41z50-require-an-external-smart-charger-chip

So, it is unclear what "internal charger controller" is being referred to in this register.

How should the CC and ICC bits be set?

Is the ICC bit even truly writable? (the docs list it as "R")

  • Hi Kevin,

These bits do not play any role in the FW code. It does not control the broadcast feature.

It looks like you can enable and disable under SBS config register. I would not pay much of a attention to them. They might be just flags to indicate the gauge is controlling the charger.
