UCC28065: Can we remove the CS pin function?(connect CS pin to GND)

Part Number: UCC28065

Tool/software:

Hi, Team

My customer used UCC28065 as the PFC, and they prefer to check with TI about below questions, could u help to check?

Customer mention that if they don't need overcurrent protection feature, Can we remove the CS pin function?(connect CS pin to  GND)

From the data sheet, it seems the CS pin only for OCP(over current protection), it is not for the PFC control loop, so can we remove it(connect CS to GND) if customer didn't need the OCP?

Thanks.

G.W

  • Hello GW,

Technically, yes, you can disable OCP by connecting CS input to GND, but I don't recommend this practice.

Without OCP, some unknown or unexpected transient condition may result in excess peak inductor (and MOSFET and Diode) current that may damage the PFC components, to the point of catastrophic failure.  Your customer is free to do what he wants to do, but I would consider this to be poor design practice.

    Ulrich
