output capacitor of TPS20xxC.

How to choose output capacitor of TPS20xxC, in the EVM selected 150uF(minimum 120uF) electrolytic cap which is high expensive, I read in datasheet, we can used 10uF cap so my question is 120uF O/P cap required by  USB standard or 120uF is for prevent output negative only?

Thanks,

  • The 150uF capacitor on the output of USB switches is a USB spec requirement. It does control output ripple and is helpful to control transients, especially when the load transitions (make or break plug-in load).

If there is no USB specification requirement and you always know the load that will be supported and it's maximum ripple requirements, It is possible to use smaller output capacitance.
