Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

we tested the TPSM861252 as a replacement for the Torex Type XCL225 in a RF amplifier design.

We found that the RF Noise Figure increase 5dB and more in the frequency range 470 -860MHz compared to the XCL225.

We suppose that this has to do with output voltage ripple of the device.

Can you recommend another type of power module with integrated inductor which has better output ripple performance?

I found the TPSM365R6 on your website. Could that be a better solution?

Or can you recommend a type for use in RF designs?

Hi Uwe Keppler,

I would recommend TPM82912. The TPSM8291x low-noise, low-ripple synchronous buck converter module is a fixed frequency current mode converter module. The converter module has a filtered internal reference to achieve a low-noise output similar to low-noise LDOs. The converter module achieves lower output voltage ripple by using a switching frequency of either 2.2 MHz or 1 MHz and an integrated 2.2-μH inductor. The output voltage ripple can be further reduced by adding a small second stage L-C filter to the output.

Hi Lucia,

found it, but we need an output voltage range up to 10V. Output current of 0.6A would be sufficient.

Hi Uwe,

I would suggest you can also try with some traditional methods to reduce output ripple and noise also. Pls refer to this PPT for more details about how to reduce it. Low-noise and low-ripple techniques for a supply without an LDO PPT
