TPS1H000-Q1: Operating above 1A at cold temp

Hi Team,

My customer is interested in using the TPS1H000-Q1 as a heater switch and is asking if we can get more than 1A out of the device since it will only operate at cold temp.

A thermal analysis needs to be done of their exact scenario but besides thermal concerns, is there anything limiting this device below 1A? I see 1A is the recommended DC nominal load in the datasheet but I wasn't sure if this applied to transients or DC load at cold temp too.

Hello David,

The TPS1H000-Q1 has an internal current limit range of 1A - 1.8A. What are the specs needed for this application? The TPS1H100-Q1 could be better suited for the customers application without needing a cooling element.

Hi Alan,

The goal for my customer is to current limit close to 1.5A. If we set our CL resistor to be at the 1.5A level is there still risk that we would limit as low as 1A because of the internal limit? I didn't totally understand your internal current limit range comment.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I was referring to the internal current limit under the power stage section in electrical characteristics. Utilizing this configuration allows for the appropriate current limit for the customer application.

Thanks for the response, can you clarify is above the higher current limit possible to set with the device? I'm trying to understand if setting the current limit at ~1.5A for this device is actually possible or not.

It seems that the external adjustable current limit is restricted to 1A. I am attempting to get this confirmed for you.

Hello David,

Sorry for the delay. Is is not recommended to set the device above the 1 A adjustable current limit. The internal limit is fixed and a little higher but is mainly used as a failsafe. If you want a higher current limit use the TPS1H200 which is pin to pin compatible with the TPS1H000.
