Tool/software:
Hi exparts,
We are considering the use of this LDO for the purpose of stepping down from about 19V to 15V. When checking the operation at the input voltage interruption, there was a scene where the LDO transiently went into a reverse bias state (Vout > VIN). The maximum time for reverse biasing was less than 1s.
The datasheet (8.1.5) shows "If reverse current flow is expected in the application, external protection is recommended to protect the device. Reverse current is not limited in the device, so external limiting is required if extended reverse voltage operation is anticipated."
Q1. Specifically, what voltage difference or other things would require external protection? For example, if VIN ≦ Vout ≦ VIN + 0.3V, is external protection necessary?
Q2. If external protection is required, what circuit configuration is recommended for this IC? If there are multiple options, please let me know.
Regards,
Hiromu
